Salooni is one
of the spectacular location in Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, about 45
Kms. From Chamba. Salooni-Sanghni-Langera is a small narrow valley with
varying elevations covered with Himalayan conifers under which a large
variety of Temperate medicinal plants grow naturally. The forest sites are
approachable and linked with road transport. |

Tisa-Beragargh-Sachpass is a paradise for trekkers
and medicinal plants lovers. The trek is about 100
Kms. And Tisa is about 60 Kms. from Chamba. In
winter heavy snow fall occurs and in summer the

natural habitats of high vale medicinal plants

Bharmour is one of the tribal Sub-division of
District Chamba and famous for the ancient Chaurasi
temple and about 70 Kms.from Chamba. Partly it
exhibits cold dry topography. Kubti, a last remote
area at a distance of about 25 Kms. from Bharmour
famous for oldest Kartik temple. Winter is very cold
and the forests are rich in valuable species of

Holi is tribal tehsil of Chamba, famous for the
production of Rajhmaha (Kidney beans) and Apricot.It
is about 65 Kms. From Chamba, Nayagran is the last
point of Holi and about 18 Kms. From Holi. From this
place the way goes to Barabhangal and another to
Baijnath. The surroundings have a thick cover of
temperate forests and a large number of valuable
Medicinal Plants grow naturally as forest under
vegetation. A temple Elakebali mata is the focal
point of worship for the local natives who are
mostly GADDI, a tribe of Himachal mainly depend upon
sheep and goat rearing. |

Baijnath is a beautiful small town of Himachal
Pradesh situated in the foot hills of Dhauladhar, a
western Himalayn range of District Kangra, famous of
the historical Shiva temple constructed in the ninth
centenary. It is the base point for conducting the
trekking in Chhota & Bara Bhangal. From Baijnath
about 28 Kms. Is world fame hang & paragliding spot
where every year tourists from the different
destination enjoy the event. After crossing the
Billing peak (2400 mtrs. Altitude) one can approach
the typical Himalayan countryside in shape of open
valley surrounded with temperate Himalayan forest
which are rich in Medicinal flora i.e. Rajgundha
about 16 Kms from Billing. Baijnath is well
connected with Road & Railway Transport. The nearest
Air Port is Kangra about 50 Kms. distance. |

In the old time in absence of any mode of road
transport there was only one pedestrian way to
connect Holi (Chamba) to Baijnath for Gaddi
(Shepherds) who usually shift to lower areas in
Kangra before winter when heavy snow fall occurs in
Jalsoo & other part of Bharmour along with their
live stock and again go back on the arrival of
Summer. The way from Baijnth to Jalsso goes through
Utrala and after crossing the Jalsoo pass at an
altitude of about 12,500 ft. msnl. One can reach
Jalsoo. Jalsoo is mixture of sloppy meadows and
alpine pasters where one can visualize a large
number of Himalayn flora. Yara, an unique piece of
Himalayn landscape, is one of the best camping site
in Jalsoo. The distance of this trek is about 40 Kms,

Joginder Nagar is situated in the foothills of
Himalayas and one of the oldest town of District
Mandi. It was the local market of Herbal raw drugs
of Barot , Lohardi & Thaltookhot areas, also a big
market of seed potato. The town is the last
destination of Toy Train run in-between
Pathankot-Jogindernagar. Now it famous for the first
Hydroelectric power generation project, constructed
in 1929. Jogindernagar is also famous for unique
Medicinal Plants herbarium & Herbal Garden run by
the AYUSH department of H.P. Visiting here one can
view the herbal wealth of the stte maintained
systematically and also a herbal garden has also
been established where more than 250 species of
different medicinal plants are being grown. The
water for the Hydro project has been tapped from
Uhal valley in Brot from where it is brought to
generation site through tunnel. At the time of
construction of the project there was no road
linkage between Barot & Jogindernagar (distance
about 35 kms.), a haulage way was constructed which
runs through the elevated terrene from Jogindernagr
& after crossing the highest point at about 7000 ft.
mnsl.. goes down to Barot. The highest point in
between is WINCH CAMP from where one can have a
spectacular natural view of Jogindernagr valley.
Barot is a small Himalayan village-cum-town situated
on the bank of Uhal river. It is a peaceful place &
also a prominent hill station. Trout fish farm also
attracts the visitor which is otherwise very rare |

From Jondernagr another suitable trek is Ghatasni to
Silbadhani. First from Jogindernagar, on
Jogindernagar-Mandi National high way at a distance
of about 14 kms. from Jogindernagar at Ghatasni a
link road bifurcates to Jhatingri-Barot. Jhatingri
is the highest point in this way & surrounded with a
thick deodar forests. In summer these forest become
colorful on the blooming of Rhododendron. From
Jhatingri the road runs down to Barot, but at a
distance of about 6 Kms. Again a road bifurcates &
goes to Silbadhani. While travelling from here to
Silbadhani, the road altitude goes up slowly and
ultimately reaches at Silbadhani, a green cover on
the earth surrounded by conifer forests. It is a
very good camping site & one can also see many rare
medicinal plants here. |

In Kullu there are many valleys each one is very
beautiful but has a distinct identification. One of
such valley is Tirthan valleys in Banjar. Tirthan is
a tributary runs through Bathad-Sairopa. Sairopa is
an international tourist point developed by World
bank funded forest conservation project, The great
Himalayan National Park. The park is the largest in
area in entire Himalayn belt spreading over in 38,00
Sq. Kms. It starts from Banjar-Sainj in Kullu and
end in Pin Valley of Spiti valley. Normally entrance
is strictly prohibited in the sanctuary area,
however in the eco development zone the tourist
activities are allowed. To compensate the locale
inhabitants in lieu of their rights in the
prohibited forest areas, the Forest Deptt. Is
undertaking various activities for these people,
under one of such activity is cultivation of
medicinal plants. To provide the germplasm, the
department has raised some nurseries of Medicinal
Plants. With the permission of FD, one can see many
rare Himalayan Medicinal plants in these nurseries.

Banjar is a small traditional town of Kullu valley
exhibits the typical living style if hilly culture.
It is a sub-divisional headquarters and surrounded
by sloppy hills. It is situated at a distance of
about 30 Kms. from Aut (Kullu) on Aut- Ani road.
From Banjar the altitude starts to climb up and the
highest point is Jalori Jot. “Jot” is a term applied
to hill pass in local terminology. So Jalori is the
place and after climbing up, it starts to down and
further goes to Ani-Rampur in Shimla district.
Around Jalori pass, there are many beautiful heart
catching camping sites and covered with thick
Himalayan forests. Many Medicinal Plants can be seen
growing naturally here. |
